Chapter 3 “Trainwreck of Science” screenshots!

Hey everyone! As we mentioned in our last blog post, we’ve begun work on Chapter 3 – Trainwreck of Science! We decided it was time to show a few screenshots and talk a little bit about them to provide some insight!

In the above screenshot, we have Hat Kid talking to a Conductor on the Science Express. The Conductor, like all the other characters in chapter 3, is a bird! He’s very snarky and rude, and if you’re not in possession of a ticket, you won’t be going aboard the Science Express!

These are the Crow Agents. In act 2, they come aboard the Science Express, but they’re not entirely without ill-intend! What exactly they’re up to, you’ll have to experience in the game!

Naturally all the above are work-in-progress and far from finished, but we hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek!

I’m liking these designs so far :)! The Crow Agents vaguely remind me of Raphael the Raven.

Snarky and sarcastic Bird in a 3D Platformer? The nods to Banjo-Kazooie are uncanny and I’m LOVING it!

I must say I really like what I’ve seen so far of the backgrounds! They look really colorful, and I think the diamond pattern in the sky (that is also the background on this website), is genious!

The Crow agents are giving me a black mage vibe like the ones from Final Fantasy IX.

This is really awesome! I love the train element to this :) You guys are a long way off, but you are making wonderful progress and wonderful work so keep it up! If you haven’t already decided on your next *four* chapters, I recommend a level with a music element to it (similar to Mario Galaxy with the notes that you pick up and as you pick them up they play a tune maybe, or perhaps something that could consist of more of the level such as Kirby’s Epic Yarn where you bounce on instruments that can play things). I only suggest this because you have such an amazing musician that has a bit of time to focus since Grant Kirkhope is joining you~

Love the idea for this chapter. Some food for thought while scripting the dialogue for this chapter, most science PhDs have huge egos and very small budgets.

Not a huge fan of the design of the Crow Agents, but the Conductor is amazing!

I hope you guys can find some inspiration from The Tower of Science from Castlevania 64, which was an awesome and strange platformer on the ever so inspirational Nintendo 64.

The combination of desert and train is making me think of the Kalamari Desert track from Mario Kart 64. And the shadowy nature of some of these people climbing aboard is also making me think of the train from Spirited Away. So… lots of awesome memories all around! I think I might really like this chapter. ^_^

I wonder if we’ll be able to explore the desert, or if invisible time walls will keep us confined to mostly the train? We’ll see; we’ll see!

The Crow Agents remind me so much of the 2 spies from Spy vs Spy Comic. But I really like the Conductor’s design.

is anyone else getting a murder on the oriental express kinda vibe? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, its a murder mystery novel/movie by Agatha Christie. looking forward to this!
